The problem with #Booksmart appears to be that they cast two stars with not nearly enough candlepower to carry the film (who the hell wants to see Beanie Feldstein star in a movie?), then compounded the mistake by insinuating that this was film every woman absolutely had to see.

“Bridesmaids” pulled off that con job successfully. Maybe it was a case of fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. In any event, the ploy does not appear to have worked.

When will wannabe female auteurs get it through their heads that they can’t shame audiences into seeing their films? They’re not about to pay the ridiculous prices that movie theaters charge for admission today because they feel obligated to do so.

Going to the movies is not some kind of duty. You go because you really want to see the film with an audience on a big screen right now and you don’t want to have to wait six months (or less) to stream it on your TV or your laptop.

Too many wannabe women directors think that because they’ve managed to make a film and get it released people are somehow morally obligated to see it simply because it was made by a woman. Doesn’t work that way. Not for men, not for women.

And as for
@oliviawilde, I hope she directs another film. A female buddy comedy starring Jennifer Lawrence and Scarlett Johansson. And I hope it makes a ton of money.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likesShow this thread
I propose that it star Jennifer Lawrence, Britt Robertson, and Haley Bennett, and that it be titled "Triplegangers."
