Looking at my 7 yo, I asked myself if there was anything that had been consistent about my life from when I was 7 til now. Instantly the answer popped into my head: being told "How dare you say that!" by the prim and conventional-minded.

Presumably at the point where you say something because it's contrarian, rather than because it's true and only incidentally contrarian.
