The number of the verb in a string of “or”s is determined by the closest noun, so in this case: uses.

My blushes, Watson! Mostly I try to recommend skirting grammatical controversy and complexity; in my view, when you're struggling to extricate yourself from messes like these, that's God's way of telling you to rewrite.

And as for doing integrals, well. I'm as attracted to the activity as was G H Hardy, god help me; but these days, when pressed, I usually apply for enlightenment to Wolfram Alpha, or some such oracle. Life, after all, is short.
