Europe is a great choice, but don't think "seen one country, done them all." I like Holland or Denmark better as you are going to find a lot more English speakers. Also don't dis UK just because they speak English. Anybody w a chance to live in London is an idiot not to.
And don't forget Norway. Magnificent scenery, North Sea oil wealth, tiny, and safe (now that Brevik is in the slammer for life.) Also pretty sure they rake their forests just as thoroughly as their hated rivals, the Swedes.

Of course, just going off of personal experience. I remember thinking Edinburgh was going to be some grungy town on the fringe of Europe only to discover yet another achingly beautiful city prettier than anything in Can/US. Centrality doesn't correlate with awesomeness.
