It is presumably still an open question at this point whether a nation of 320 millions has actually picked gibbering, rambling mediocrity for its leader; the possibility remains that systematic manipulation of the US electorate by a hostile foreign power produced this outcome.

It is worth recalling that Kathleen Hall Jamieson, a careful and scrupulous scholar with no history of rhetorical partisanship, has concluded that a preponderance of evidence standard would permit the conviction of Russia on charges of affecting the outcome of the 2016 election.
