People aren’t interested in “good” music. People want music that flows from passion or fascination or discovery. “Quality music,” that’s just your ego talking. Finished-sounding, high-quality music is always going to get swamped by passionate music.

The crucial point, though, is that consummate craftsmen may be just as inspired by passion as madmen. And the best work of all forges the raw molten ore of passion into a shape so elegant that its perfection delights almost as much as its intensity of feeling.
