OTD 1859 the disastrous premiere of Brahms' 1st piano concerto. Music history is littered with unsuccessful 1st performances of works later recognised as masterpieces - eg the Rite of Spring. Most tragic, I think, is Bizet's Carmen - SO sad that he died thinking it was a failure.
