My daughter (8) had trouble multiplying 1000 by 10, because (i) 10,000 doesn't have a new name and (ii) "ten thousand" is a bit of a tautological answer. Good mathematical instincts, even if she got it wrong.

It seems from what you say that she actually had no trouble multiplying the two numbers; she was merely uncertain whether a tautological nomenclature for the result would be acceptable, and so hesitated to employ it.
