Of course it's also true that conscious effort and reflection are needed to bridge the gaps between generations, and that a disposition to avoid hard work is common to all (as is impatience, which also undermines effective communication between those with disparate experiences.)
It seems to me that there's far less colloquy across generational divides than would profit all parties to it. The young begin by supposing that their elders are irrelevant fuddy-duddies, and the old begin by supposing that the young are trivial simpletons. Wisdom comes too late.
