When a change that makes something more powerful also makes it simpler, it's probably a good idea.

The reason such changes are even possible is that you started out with an unduly narrow conception of the problem. But that's common when you start, as the best ideas often do, from an immediate need.

The crucial point is that the correct notion of "simplicity" is practically always hidden from the pioneers, who of necessity spend much of their time groping toward it, guided by obscure intuitions. To perceive true simplicity is a great achievement, a breakthrough.
