Sure, but the number of hours needed to learn language via full immersion greatly exceeds the total numbers of hours available for math education. As someone who spent their childhood playing with numbers and math, I'm telling you that just spending time isn't always sufficient.

I urge you to study Steven B Smith's magisterial treatise THE GREAT MENTAL CALCULATORS. Mathematics is much easier to learn than language -- especially the sort of mathematics constituting the school curriculum. Immersion most definitely suffices, if the circumstances are right.

math is hierarchical involving a multitude of steps. WIthout mastery there is no natural progression from one step to the next. Rote is part of that. It is NOT the same system as speaking a language.
