It can be tough to write fiction these days, because fiction is supposed to make sense & our everyday reality feels pretty nonsensical & also upsetting, infuriating, scary. It’s fluid & fast & tough to grasp in your hands long enough to accurately describe it...
I would point to Paul Auster as an author unusually skilled at the persuasive narration of satisfying, coherent tales that include, and indeed even turn on, the freak accidents and bizarre incongruities that are so prominent a part of real life. (See, e.g., his LEVIATHAN.)
