Using the 10 and 50 sma with trading individual stocks is a lot more complicated. Because they are so much more volatile and other factors like volume etc play such an importance. That's a whole other lesson on trading.

I'm very glad you mentioned this. The system is a great guide but of course, always external elements to be aware of as you say. I do use this particular cross for individual stocks but I am certainly more watchful, never follow blindly, but I find it helpful for swings as well.
