Does the system not call for the 20sma to cross over the 50 though? Or is it price action as well?

how do you figure? Its actually the opposite.. when $SPX falls under the 50 day.. sell it! you had two chances to do that in 2022. In January and in Mid April
if you bought the break above the 50 in March.. you had about a week to sell that.. before it crashed again
