Is the long term investor losing back money this year?
Yes. Long term investor always do badly in a bear market. They will lose money 100% of the time even if they are diversified. They are passive and totally at the whim of the market.

Look, if there were no less tallented investors than you, who would buy your stocks when you discover a sell signal? Just say thank you and be happy they provide you liquidity.

How am I "losing money"? I haven't sold anything. As a long term investor, I know market dips will rebound and exceed even pre-dip levels. In the meantime, I'm using my cash to buy at a discount. The only way long term investors "lose money" is if they panic and start selling.

You say 'long term' and 'this year'? An investor who has bought in the previous months and sells this year probably loses money yes. An investor who buys this year and sells next year probably makes money🤷🏻♂️
