NEVER EVER short a small thinly traded stock.
The MM will just bump the stock price up to your short cover stop loss and then bring it right back down.
You will lose on every trade.

Do they also notice them on an index like spy or qqq? Let’s say a 20-30k trade? Because sometimes I feel they do this but I might be overreacting
