The strange thing about the drop in late 2019 is it happened at what is usually a very Bullish time for the market DEC.
The market got freaked out by the possibility of rising rates.

The last time the market had a problem with interest rates was late Sep 2019.
It lasted about 10 weeks. The market held tight until Dec then in end the dropped a total of over 20% for S&P and around 30% for the Nasdaq.
