On fb I spent years with only 5000 friends on 2 pages with no followers and only people I requested or accepted that weren't part of the industry. I didn't want to waste energy on any drama. Here on Twitter I kept it open and accepted everyone. Good part is almost no Drama.

thank you for all you do. I got started because after finishing my Masters I missed doing research and studying. This gave me that feel I was missing. You are right, connecting with like minded people is better.
