TRUE STORY.
Commissions were so high years ago. You paid by the number of shares you bought.
So in the late 1990's I bought 40,000 shares of a .50 stock and my commission was $378. to Buy and to Sell.
How you going to make money back then with a $750. commission on a trade?

I know someone *today* who has an account worth a couple million and let's her financial advisor handle the day to day trades. He totally rips her off, charging $500 to buy and sell each trade. Tens of thousands in commissions each year. It's insane.
