How long did it take you in the beginning to become consistently profitable, what helped the most?

In my case it took a long time because I never put too much work into it.
I started trading in the 1990's and made money even though I didn't know anything. Then lost money after. Wasn't until I lost a lot of money in 2008 that I became a good trader and never lost since.
I doubled my account in my first month, lost all that and then some back the next month and this 3rd month so far I'm up and down basically even.
