There are so many stocks going higher. You really need to use a few scanners if you want to catch them all.

I always wonder that too. Outside of unusual volume, I'm never sure what exactly to scan for. I used to read a lot about technicals, but it seems as though news and sentiment are the biggest drivers, at least for day trading or short term holds.
