Both cars and firearms can (and should) be made more safe via systematic effort- lots of overlapping measures, tried and improved steadily over time. That’s what epidemiologists (disease drs) do, and what auto safety engrs do (like me).

Why don't we treat guns like autos? Test for proficiency before granted a license, special training/licensing for operating big rigs, require registration and insurance. Yes some people will still break laws, but do we take away traffic lights because some people run through red?
