    If you allow one to alter zero dots, i.e., to repeat characters, you can get up to 7 letters with STINGING (⠌⠬⠬).

    Even allowing for filler characters like spaces or capitalization (⠠) doesn't improve things much, mostly because few letters are adjacent (in F_2^6) to these special characters so they don't improve alphabet traversal.

    You might hope there are longer Braille chains, but no! The only grade-2 braille strings of length 5, like FISTS as ⠋⠊⠎⠞⠎, are more accurately transcribed as something else (in this case, ⠋⠊⠌⠎) that doesn't alternate properly. (Works in grade 1, though!)

    (The actual rate of people talking about math was fairly low - 2 conversations in 90 minutes of sitting around with the sign - but that was fine, I just read a book and that was quite enjoyable by itself. Probably you can increase this rate by picking higher-traffic locations)

    I sat in Central Park last weekend with this sign for two hours and had some pretty good conversations. I think in general people do less of this sort of thing than they ought to - the risks of inviting new interactions with people are pretty small, and potential upsides large.

    Demonstrating 6 is possible is pretty easy, though; here's an example. All vertices have a unique tuple (degree, smallest degree of neighbor), so there can't be any nontrivial automorphisms.

    What's the easiest proof? Suppose G is smallest such, |G|=n; easy to see no vertex has degree 0 or n-1. If all have deg 1, 2, then connected components are lines/loops (easy to flip). So ≥1 has deg 3. From there you can casework n=5, but still kinda gross. Anything more elegant?

    The smallest graph with more than 1 vertex but no nontrivial automorphisms has 6 vertices
