"Best Before" dates are a marketing gimmick intended to make people throw away edible food, increasing the amount they buy. If something doesn't look, smell or taste different, you can almost certainly still eat it. (If there are foods for which this is false, please state them)

You can refrigerate food you wouldn't normally refrigerate to keep it edible longer. (However, freezing food you wouldn't normally freeze will ruin it)

In particular, putting bread in your fridge will make it rot slower but go stale faster; this is less of a tradeoff than it may seem, as stale bread can be resurrected in a microwave or legitimated in a toaster.
