If you don't know about Madame... I think she's an important part of, not just puppet history, but the shape of US culture. Wayland Flowers was one of the first mainstream entertainers who was openly gay.

I loved Madame's Place! I used to watch the reruns, just delightful! Cute lil' baby Corey Feldman is in it, too! When my daughter was a baby, I put a really wide headband on her, with a big bow on the front, and my sister said, "Um, why is your baby dressed like Madame?"

I loved them! I was much older before I twigged that Wayland was gay and Madame was his sassy-ass drag persona (but much easier to dress). They were a delight!

I recall Madame, she actually creeped me out as a kid, but I never knew who the puppeteer was.
