Healthcare professionals demanded we drastically reduce the jail population, so we listened. On Jan 21, the SF jail population was 1,238. On March 4, when the emergency was declared, it was 1,097. Yesterday, it was 766. Meanwhile, crime rates continue to decrease in SF.

The SFPD's own data shows that crime is down 40% compared to last year during the same time period (3/8 - 4/5). A significant decrease in crime doesn't mean no crime.pic.twitter.com/wsbUwueRcZ

The data you referenced only goes through the end of February and and began in October 2019, three months before Chesa took office. Even then, crime ticked down from December to January and again January to February.pic.twitter.com/7tG02Pvmv9

check SFPD's compstat below Robberies up 15% under Chelsa. Car break-ins declined but replaced by thieves stealing the entire car- up 10%!
