Sobering reminder.... we can freely debate on here whether the World Bank should lend Magufuli $500m for girls schooling while he expels pregnant girls. Meanwhile, Zitto and local civil society leaders are putting their lives on the line for this issue.

Sixty years ago today, courage was personified by the 4 students who sat down at the Woolworth’s lunch counter in Greensboro, NC refusing to accept hate and discrimination as the norm. Today we honor them and hope to emulate even an iota of that same courage.

The UK is leaving the European Union today. If the UK wants to play a positive role in the world after Brexit, it needs to lead by example on human rights.

  16. Contrary to how the World Bank has portrayed this, the fee-based system doesn’t provide girls who are moms w/ a CHOICE. Unlike out-of-school children who have a choice of returning to school (albeit with MANY financial barriers), pregnant girls are arbitrarily denied this right.
