The Norse were farming on Greenland from 900ad-1350ad. It was a lot warmer, more melting to come.
Heat wave in #Greenland - yesterday, 31 July, had an ice loss of more than 10 gigatonnes (= billion tonnes or km³) just because of surface melt. Because this is about the extreme melt event 2019. Last year was comparatively cold. That's because of the sustained blocking pattern that brought Europe the extremely hot and dry summer. The cold air was over Greenland. This behaviour has been known for long. Also by the Norse.
