fantastic new EEG/ET paper by tldr: Run your ICA at 2Hz (passband) to remove eyemovement artefacts. Boost correction by concatenating spike potentials! The definitive guide to ET/EEG ICA eye-artefact correction.

We experience a rich visual world. However, experiments often demonstrate that we lack the details. How can we make sense of this puzzle, and if we're so bad at the details, how does vision work as well as it does? A new theory:

I wish I hadn't but I actually counted. He says Biollions 155+1 times. That's almost two brains worth of neurons.

This made my year. I am so looking forward to this project. We're going to work towards a new theory of active vision (more on that soon). I will have to find great postdocs and PhD students to get this up and running. Stay tuned for announcements for positions early next year.

International societies should meet where all nationalities can attend. Icelandic Vision Lab's principal investigators will therefore not attend VSS 2020 conference in FL. RTs appreciated.

Cool new paper by Richard Schweitzer (not on Twitter?) and on a fast and adaptive algorithm for saccade detection. Ideal for gaze-contingent experiments on high-frequency displays! Out now in Behavior Research Methods:

This was exactely the core argument in our proposal, why the impressive performance of neural networks / machine learning in very special (constrained) contexts may not teach us much about general (artificial) intelligence in the real world.... 1/2

I vaguely remember that someone compared systematically the kinematics of rapid reach movements to those of saccades. Pubmed has not been very generous with me. Does anyone know more about this?

Do you know someone in psychology (postgrad or staff) at Uni Melb, ANU, or Monash? We've had just one respondent from these 3 unis complete our survey of Open Science practices & attitudes in Australasia. If you can, please pass on this link to them:

Form perception in humans is supported not just by cones and rods, but also by the activity of intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells. Very elegant from Rob Lucas using a novel 4-primary visual display
