So, would be wrong if it was wrong in the wrong direction. Monty Python would be proud!https://twitter.com/freddiesayers/status/1420277375053582338 …

    Martin Kulldorff added,

Prof Neil Ferguson tells Politico: “I’m quite happy to be wrong if it’s wrong in the right direction.” But why is making overly pessimistic forecasts an error in the right direction? The fact that gov scientists think that way has enormous consequences.

If overly pessimistic predictions are incentivized, there’s an non-negligible bias in the whole business of prediction making

Absolutely! With each grossly erroneous forecast, they further erode any remaining confidence in public health officials/epidemiologists. Remember the CDC Director going on TV in March saying "I'm scared" and sensed "impending doom" of a massive 4th wave that never happened.

This is understandable! I mean, he might be incompetent, but he is not a monster. HOWEVER, it clearly shows that he does not suffer from ANY CONSEQUENCES from his failed predictions, and that is WRONG!

At least for the last year all this modeling, testing etc has nothing to do with science. " EU Commission points out that tests that detect if a person developed antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 known as antibodies tests cannot be used to obtain a recovery certificate" science.....
