        With some further reflection on the topic: The first step any writer takes before setting pen to paper is to consider audience analysis. At this point a scientific writer must first consider the peer review board as the target audience, for they are ultimately censors.

        Well, I only know the alternative is that the preprint is incredibly cheap and easy to produce as evidenced in this pandemic. With peer-review, u at least have somebody, something to criticize on. Without, we each point at other folks's noise, yelling fake science.

        Why can’t we just replace all these ‘selective’ journals with a Wiki? Internet publishing is free. Academia has created an artificial scarcity.
