I think none of the politicians in Europe are thinking very much, they are mostly following public opinion and reading stupid blogposts. The dutch prime minister is still referring to the article 'the hammer and the dance'. Very dispiriting to see such incompetence in our leaders

There are lots of experiments in this throughout the world with limited retail hours and weekend closures. Turkey's weekend lockdowns might mean more crowding during the week and during reduced hours for essentials on weekends, but they've been effective.pic.twitter.com/5WXIsTWAwt

The same was seen in Portugal in November and early December where we had a run of similar restrictions on weekends and long holiday weekends. I imagine there's a smarter way to go about it, but this works to reduce transmission presumably through limiting time spent in retail.pic.twitter.com/EbAJmHLmcW
