I'm so tired of the "far right" accusation, it's utterly ridiculous. How can a human with empathy and a sense of social justice ignore the GBD's argument that the underprivileged carry the burdens of lockdowns? It's the most important social democratic document in the pandemic.

I am mystified by the lockdown mentality that doesn't see the whole picture on the multiple connections involved. The most vulnerable are, inevitably, the ones who need the system to keep functioning. Hiding at home, eating takeout, and binging Netflix does not help them.

Exactly. And those who perpetuated the conspiracy theory that allowing populations to build strength against the virus necessarily means excess lives lost, as is @PeterHotez, have a lot of blood on their hands as a result.

Far right? Point 2 of the article says GBD "gives oxygen to fringe groups" without saying what those groups are or why it gives oxygen to them. Even if that is true that does not mean GBD is wrong. Scientific advancements not infrequently overturn the consensus.
