Great letter, except for the final sentence, where you threw this in unnecessarily: "Assuming no bias against women scientists of color.." That brings in a whole other, unrelated topic. And it's a rather abrupt way to raise that unrelated issue. Anyway, the rest was spot on!
I thought that was a little cringe.

Copernicus was nearly burned at the stake and, instead spent the rest of his life under house arrest. Science only moves forward when one individual's ideas can change the status quo. If the status quo is more important than independent thought and ideas, darkness prevails.
You confused the names. Copernicus didn't publish his discovery untill shortly before his death, exactly to avoid prosecution.
