This is weird! @SWAtlasHoover stated the simple fact that immunity is higher than those with antibodies, whereupon Dr. Fauci criticizes him without contradicting what was actually said. Stating a simple scientific fact is not "extraordinarily inappropriate". What is going on?https://twitter.com/peterstaley/status/1309848839621423107 …

During my interview with Tony Fauci yesterday, I asked him about Scott Atlas's @SWAtlasHoover attempted takedown of @CDCDirector Redfield re how many Americans are still susceptible to #COVID19. Here's my question. /1 Full interview: https://www.instagram.com/tv/CFlEMt8Kg2B/?igshid=168osghuko3uw … pic.twitter.com/qTdATWdwrA

Dear @MartinKulldorff Yes, we need open discourse. But the reports @SWAtlasHoover references (one of which we published) describe T cell cross-*reactivity* NOT cross-immunity. To equate cross-reactive T cells with immunity to SARS-CoV-2 is unfounded & simply false at this point

Thanks Lars Erik! You know more about this then I do. This KI paper seems to indicate that there is T-cell immunity after COVID19 infection. How should that be interpreted?https://www.cell.com/cell/fulltext/S0092-8674(20)31008-4 …

This is an important paper showing that most people exposed to SARS-CoV-2 develop T cells and antibodies that recognize the virus. They also found that some people w/o antibodies have T cell responses. But, the majority has both. It's unclear if T cells alone provide "immunity".

Moreover, he referred to "cross-immunity". That is not what this paper is about. The concept of x-protection is very exciting. We *hope* that pre-existing cross-reactivity may afford some level of protection. But it is unfounded to base public health policy on these findings.

Atlas mentioned T-cell immunity and cross-immunity as two different things, so you agree on that. Is the disagreement whether T-cell response after COVID19 infection leads to some form of immunity?

Don't get me wrong, I believe that SARS-CoV-2 induced T cells afford (some level of) protection. Cross-reactive T cells are present in many people, but they can still get infected. Whether they positively impact the course of disease is currently under heavy investigation

Thanks Lars. So you agree with Atlas that SARS-CoV-2 induced T cells afford some immunity, and some people w/o antibodies are protected. I suspect Fauci also agrees. That is why it was so strange. On the other hand, cross-immunity is uncertain. Appreciate your patience with me.

Lars, I am a lawyer and I ask questions. My question is when the CDC ran the novel flu pandemic model, it assumed only 30% get it. Why? What virus results in 80% infected? Don’t they assume some sort of immunity or cross reactivity? Farr’s law?pic.twitter.com/BPW8ThxEK3
