Fantastic interview with infectious disease epidemiologist @SunetraGupta: “She is not a street fighter, .. not a natural controversialist, she is quite a dignified scientific person, and here she finds herself embroiled in this great controversy” (16m30s) https://art19.com/shows/planet-normal/episodes/f69327d5-4fdf-4a26-a264-d19e7bb2c55b …

That giant wall should separate politics from just about everything, not just scientists.

Disheartening that Gupta (and you) are vilified for promoting a response actually supported by "science and data." Compare the measured CDC pandemic plan (voluntary quarantine, brief closures) to the extreme measures taken to combat COVID (which is severity 2, maybe 3).pic.twitter.com/cTGPzOhTXt

Dr. Gupta discusses mitigation harms. This shouldn't have been a surprise - the literal pandemic playbook DISCUSSES second and third-order consequences of, e.g., school closures. Yet our COVID response has been based on the false premise that mitigations are costless.

So nice to hear from an actual biologist who gets the complexity of virus-host interaction.
