Contact tracing, testing and isolation is important against many infectious disease outbreaks, such as Ebola and post-vaccine measles. It is ineffective, naïve and counter-productive against COVID19, influenza, pre-vaccine measles, etc, and by definition, against any pandemic.

There will probably never be a natural herd immunity from Covid 19 and given the nature of coronaviruses as a whole, probably never a vaccine with more than 40-50% efficacy. So what then? And now?

I'll revisit this thread this time next year. I've not seen enough evidence to make such a call as this yet. Mitigation of this pandemic buys us time and that's undeniably imperative.
