If the pandemic had a very different age-distribution, then the best strategy would also be very different. Public health must always be risk-targeted, but with #COVID19, that basic public health principle was thrown out the window with enormous collateral public health damage.

Understand. Would the public be virus deniers? Would they refuse to wear a mask? Would they take necessary precautions? No, No, and Yes. This is the hypocrisy of their actions.

I suspect the public’s response would be dramatically if the was the virus hit vulnerable children... pointing out the hypocrisy in the concern for life.
