Interesting article by Mark Woolhouse who is a highly qualified and experienced 'Infectious Disease Epidemiologist'. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/09/19/uk-needs-follow-swedish-model-learn-live-covid/ …pic.twitter.com/hIUFe7LxiO

It is interesting how divided scientists are on the best way ahead, so much for the 'follow the science' mantra. Though, it is probably fair to state that there is a trend for qualified 'infectious disease epidemiologists' to share Mark Woolhouse's views.

Yes, my impression is also that most infectious disease epidemiologist favor an age-targeted strategy over general lockdowns. Among other scientists, most are silent, for obvious reasons, while almost all the vocal ones favor general age-wide lockdowns.

Happy to be proven wrong, but my impression is that the stakes are (or seem to be) rather higher. Friendships, Networks, Grants, Jobs.

With all due respect, their silence is criminal. They *have* to speak out.

The question is - are they really vocal ones, or is media happy to amplify only these kind of voices? I thibk the obvious answer is yes. Which leads to the second question - why? I don't have an answer and hope it's not for sinister reasons, just good old for profit fearmongering

States like Florida are conclusively proving those in favor of general lockdowns in the US wrong. The data are in. I’m in NYC and our schools and restaurants are still closed, while FL increases socialization with hospitalizations in rapid decline.

Eli, serious question. Not trolling. I have been impressed with your work for the past few weeks. As a D, has the COVID insanity coming mostly, but not exclusively, from your team impacted your political outlook in general?

That's common sense. Why should they be silent about it? Why should a 20, 30, 40 or even 50 year old stay home? The average is 85 with 3 co morbidity. We don't have to keep pretending like this effects everybody equally. Because it doesn't.

I do think we need to get back to individual choice (i.e. like a free society). Care home residences are vulnerable almost be definition, but should be allowed to make their own decisions about meeting family etc, and we need to find as way of facilitating that

Carehome residents put other residents at risk by meating family etc, hence it can't be each resident deciding decidibg for themselves.
