.@MartinKulldorff, do you have a comment on the change in guidance at the CDC regarding testing? Most curious to hear your thoughts.https://twitter.com/CT_Bergstrom/status/1298433746413133824 …

What about long haulers?
As a citizen-journalist, I can say that it’s an important dimension of C19, as it is for any severe infection, including influenza, Epstein-Barr, etc. I haven’t seen any studies yet that systematically investigate C19 long haulers. Mainly the concept provides cover for fear.
And that’s because asymptomatic transmission—although it does happen on occasion—is not a major driver of the pandemic, yes? Which makes sense to me. I find the degree of outrage among MDs deeply confusing.
Thanks! And might I ask your thoughts on using PCR for COVID? Seems Kary Mullis (PCR inventor) didn't think it should be used for viruses.https://uncoverdc.com/2020/04/07/was-the-covid-19-test-meant-to-detect-a-virus/ …
Hopefully @MartinKulldorff weighs in, if not, Google NY Times article on PCR test is positive, but should it be.
Testing perfectly healthy college students makes zero sense.
The problem is with the recommendation to *not* test even *close contacts of confirmed cases*. Transmission cannot be disrupted without testing contacts of confirmed cases.
That’s not the guidance. You may want to reread. Individuals who have been in close contact with an infected person, typically meaning within six feet and for at least 15 minutes, “do not necessarily need a test” if they do not have symptoms. However, their are exceptions.
