This whole school opening thing during the #COVID19 pandemic is beyond confusing. And I say that as and Infectious Disease/IPAC physician who has been dealing with this for months and has a fairly good grasp on #SARSCoV2. I can’t imagine how hard this is on many parents. 1/

The admix of politicians trying to do the right thing, teachers and support staff being worried for good reason and parental uncertainty is really difficult to sift through when combined with the factional infighting amplified in media coverage. 2/

Regrettably, science can only help so much in this melange. I don’t have any answers but what little clarity I see comes from following Twitterati: @imgrund @DrZoeHyde @AshTuite. Seems, if you keep community prevalence low, it may go well, if high, it will not. End/

In Sweden, community prevalence was high, daycare/primary/middle schools were open, and it went well.

Let’s stop using Sweden as a model of success.

Let's start using data for public health decisions. Sweden never closed day-care/primary/middle schools, with zero COVID19 deaths among 1.8 million children ages 1-15. Teachers had same risk as average of other professions. https://www.folkhalsomyndigheten.se/contentassets/c1b78bffbfde4a7899eb0d8ffdb57b09/covid-19-school-aged-children.pdf …

Sweden... Where countless teachers died due to the country being irresponsible. You throw the countries name around like it holds ANY weight any more. It doesn’t. Their response to COVID and inability to admit they were wrong is an embarrassment zz

As a statistician, you should know the difference between countless and one.
