#PCR testing is very important for clinical care and to ensure that hospital, nursing home and elder care staff, patients and residents do not infect each other. Also helpful with random population surveys. Not important to test other asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic persons.

So, don't test 'mildly symptomatic' cases so they can infect their contacts. But when you start with a nonsensical hammer (let us reach herd immunity despite the fact there is no herd immunity for any respiratory viruse apart from measles), everything must indeed look like a nail
