It's good to know that when the next avian influenza pandemic comes (and it will), there will still be people like you that will claim it's impossible to stop and we should build 'herd immunity' while accepting the 40-50% death rate.
Each pandemic has its unique characteristics. The best strategy for one pandemic will not be the best strategy for the next one. When the next pandemic comes, listen to those that got it right this time, even if the recommended strategy may be very different.
