This is a good example of why one should not trust reporters to describe scientific results accurately. Conservation of momentum, of course, has nothing to do with an atmosphere or lack thereof.

A good scientists can explain things so that most people with curiosity and patience can understand. This includes Einstein. He proved it in his 1916 book on Relativity, written for those with a high school education.
