The idea behind lockdowns was to keep from overwhelming the health care system. The only thing that will reduce the total death count is a vaccine or a cure.
To minimize total deaths, we need to better protect the high-risk elderly until they are protected by herd immunity generated either by a vaccine or by natural infection among low risk individuals.
