New CDC guidance on schools written by White House officials. Politicizing the reopening of schools hurts communities and kids. We need real guidance for how to safely bring kids back to the classroom, such as incidence triggers for opening/closing.https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2020/07/23/covid-live-updates-us/?hpid=hp_hp-top-table-high_virus-luf-1225am%3Aprime-time%2Fpromo#link-ZU2YAGFR5ZCJLITVWMNREKWS6E …

Jennifer: The scientific approach is to look at the country that never closed day-care/primary/middle schools during the pandemic. They had zero #COVID19 deaths among their 1.8 million children ages 1-15. Teachers had the same risk as other professions. https://folkhalsomyndigheten.se/contentassets/c1b78bffbfde4a7899eb0d8ffdb57b09/covid-19-school-aged-children.pdf …

In your judgment, how should we think about older high school students (age 15-18)? We’ve already had deaths in this age group in United States. I don’t know if we have comprehensive data on hospitalizations or other harmful outcomes short of death.https://twitter.com/facesofcovid/status/1286451025579249670?s=21 …

JAMES DOBY died of COVID-19 on July 23rd. He had just graduated high school a few months ago in Duluth, Georgia, where he was a standout football player, and was living in Nashville where he was studying to be a mechanic. Correct. US had 190 #COVID19 deaths, ages 15-24, 2/1-7/11, compared to 14,620 deaths of other causes, so ~1% of total in that age group. We also have to note that education is important for short and long term mental and physical health. https://data.cdc.gov/NCHS/Provisional-COVID-19-Death-Counts-by-Sex-Age-and-S/9bhg-hcku …
