I've been hesitant to say much publicly about kids and schools because of my own ambivalence as a parent. @politico convinced me that the ambivalence was itself worth sharing. https://www.politico.com/newsletters/politico-nightly-coronavirus-special-edition …pic.twitter.com/f3BP2C1DW1

Hi Julia. Sweden never closed day-care or primary/middle schools, with zero #COVID19 deaths among 1.8 million kids ages 1-15. So, your kids will be fine. But, the lockdown caused childhood vaccination rates to plummet, so make sure they are vaccinated. https://www.folkhalsomyndigheten.se/contentassets/c1b78bffbfde4a7899eb0d8ffdb57b09/covid-19-school-aged-children.pdf …

How many adult deaths are the result of infection related to school? That’s the bigger concern.

Compared to other professions, the relative risk of #COVID19 was 0.9 (95% CI 0.7-1.1) for day-care teachers and 1.1 (95% CI 0.9-1.3) for primary/middle school teachers. What other professions were included in the comparison group? I also wonder how the researchers accounted for the many other potential sources of exposure for adults in those other professions (such as office spaces, commuting, going to the gym, going to bars and restaurants...)

The comparison group was all professions other than day-care, primary and secondary school teachers. No adjustments for other sources of exposure. The conclusion is just that teachers do not have an exceptionally high risk.

Why would they, if reasonable precautions, good ventilation are available? The adults can better keep themselves distanced from the kids than the kids can from each other. They will mainly spread it to their parents. The US can't afford this additional channel of community spread
