The article is compelling, and I understand all of the points you make. The only thing I wonder how you factored in is that the number of cases at a time could affect mortality rate. The original “flatten the curve” is still relevant, no? Less patients should allow better care?
Yes, it was important to flatten the curve to avoid overcrowded hospitals, and that is still a concern when states and countries reopen. Hence, self-isolation of the elderly is not only important for their own health.

It seems clear that a huge % of us will get this at some point, but did lockdown/quarantine of mostly healthy people help or hinder the case load, such a small fraction of NYC got sick, is wave 2 going to be massive? I guess the experiment is being done now.

No. Infections were on their way down in the NYC metro by the time we locked down. We had no case spike from the massive BLM protests/riots. NYC area is at herd immunity (it seems many have preexisting t-cells).
