  5. I think that's a first. State of the Union speech in the USA while a president under impeachment trial period. You see I think palosi missed a trick there. "You're hereby invited to give the state of the union speech". Then when he steps up to the lectern. "Suprise!" .......

  6. Don't say I never do anything nice for you . This should save you at least 20p on the cost of signage for the shiny new Scotland Office building in Edinburgh when it becomes superfluous. |

  7. That's actually a good point. LOL. How to disarm the UK nuclear deterent for SCND and CND. "Nut! Yer no gettin them back! We're gonna dismantle them sensibly!"

  8. Watching English MP's argue how it would be too dangerous to put it next to a CITY FULL OF PEOPLE would be highly amusing!

  9. The SNP should call a debate on relocating trident to the Thames. See how that's debated in the commons!

  10. Politicians: This is sh*te! It needs fixed. Economists and Businessmen: This is shite! You need to spend more money and charge more. Engineers: This is sh*te! It needs fixed! This is how you do it AND it will save money!

  12. ...and there is nothing Scottish MPs can do about it because they are not allowed to vote on the matter. That ladies and gentlemen is why English Votes for English laws reduces Scottish and Welsh MP's to second class.

  13. Those English MP's are not just voting for funding in England, but their vote, as a result of the barnett formula also has a direct effect on Funding to Scotland. In otherwords the Tories can undermine funding to Scotland by making changes to funding in England...

  14. Obviously this is a really reductive example to simplify it. But thats the intent. Now imagine that this service (being in England) is only voted on in terms of funding, by English MP's under the "English Votes for English Laws" process, excluding Scottish and Welsh MP's.

  15. the amount of our own tax money that Scotland gets back. Now imagine that service isn't £100 an hour, but instead is a £10 billion a year service. Scotland loses £1 Billion in funding.

  16. As a result of that service no longer being there, the £10 an hour Scotland would have gone also evapourates. So when Westminster votes on funding for a public service in England. It has direct consequences for funding of Scottish services AND....

  17. Now imagine that this £100 an hour service is privatised and people in England are having to pay for it (in addition to still paying their tax at normal levels) OR the service is scrapped. The UK's balance sheet no longer has that £100 an hour on it.

  18. Say that thing cost £100 an hour to run in England. Scotland would get £10 an hour for the equivalent service in Scotland as part of the "block grant". "Block Grant" is just political spin for "a proportion of your own tax coming back to you".

  19. Well imagine, if you will, that for every £1 spent on the NHS in England, Scotland gets 10p. Now imagine what happens if something becomes a chargeable private service which was once paid for by the public purse?

  20. In a nutshell, everytime England spends £1 on the public sector, Scotland is allocated 10p (because we have roughly 10% of the UK's population). Simple eh?
