I was fired last week by Google for organizing. All I did was make a popup to share the labor notice Google has to share with its workers. 3 hours later mgmt came to my desk, took my phone/laptop, escorted me away. I never got to say goodbye. The documents (or companies policies in general) surely said something about the ordinary issue tracking/code review/merge pattern for internal tools, though?

Not to my memory. If you get a review and language readability that is it as far as technical requirements are concerned. The change was neither security relevant nor consumer visible.

It isn't clear what the status of that extension is. It is possible it was provided by just one owner person for voluntary use by others. Then you can change it as you see fit. A personal tool shared with others.
